Dementia

It seems to me everywhere I look or listen dementia is affecting someone I know, friends, family, colleagues, in the news and media. Dementia is all around, but what does it actually mean? How does it affect people?

Dementia covers a range of illness including Alzheimer and vascular dementia. It often involves memory loss, impaired, reduced or poor cognitive (thinking) functions, communication issues and understanding. It can involve blood vessels and memory pathways in the brain degrading or dying off which means the memories or information stored in our brains isn’t as easy to access as it was or is no longer there at all. This has an impact on the way we interact and understand the world around us.
