Counselling & Psychotherapy

We are offering face to face, video and telephone, however, we encourage people to consider video or telephone as an alternative to face to face if feeling unwell.

We are all just human.

As I sit and write this I wonder if these are the right words. We all have good days and bad days, good weeks and bad weeks. Sometimes those days need to be talked about so we can make sense of them. When we have a broken leg or a chest infection we treat it with a plaster cast or antibiotics, when we have worries, trauma, depression, any mental health issues it is more than OK to treat it with psychotherapy and counselling. It is the right things to take time to heal our minds as well as our bodies.

Here at Wright Minds we’ll help you to do just that

What we offer

Wright Minds offers confidential Counselling. I also offer counselling supervision, and management debriefing sessions. These can be private sessions or they can be funded by your employer/insurance. I can also offer basic counselling skills and techniques training.

I offer an integrative counselling service with a person centred focus but use methods from CBT, Mindfulness, trauma informed therapy, critical incident stress management support and supervision, to adapt my counselling practise to the needs of each individual client. The details of these different methods are explored on my Therapies page. I use them in conjunction with the client’s aims of therapy to provide a tailored therapeutic environment for each individual.

Qualifications and Experience

I am Laura Wright. I have been working as a counsellor for over 14 years now and have over 6,000 hours of counselling experience with clients from age 4 upwards. I have an MSc (distinction) in Counselling Psychology from Keele University, as well as a teaching certificate and a supervision certificate. I have worked as a staff counsellor in the NHS, as a volunteer counsellor for a sheltered housing organisation helping people with mental health and addiction issues return to their everyday lives. I have also worked for a bereavement, loss and life changing illness charity and I have been working as a teaching fellow in counselling.

How we work

I work with clients on any issues they wish to bring. I believe the client should set the agenda. I am happy to let the client lead their sessions or be a guide for them if they wish. Everyone is an individual and thus every therapeutic relationship formed is as individual as they are. I offer free 30 minute telephone consultations to discuss your therapy and if I am the right therapist for you, what you wish to achieve and discuss our contract.

I have particular experience with life changing illness, bullying, loss of any kind, neurodiversity, bereavement (including pets), relationships, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and life changing issues and trauma.

I am also a registered and accredited member of the BACP and work within their professional boundaries and guidelines for ethical practise.

Sessions last 60 minutes. I will try to work with you to arrange a session time that suits your schedule.
